DJ Mikey Dee has been in the music business for over 30yrs. Starting as “box bwoy” with Jah Tubbys sound in the latter part of the 80s to being a founding member of roots/dub sound Aba-Shanti-I in 1990.
With family roots in Coventry, West Midlands he started in the music promotion business in the early 90s and regularly ran club nights in the city. When DJs didn’t turn up for an event in 1996 he had to DJ the night himself. It proved to be a successful night and so his Dj career began.
Within a few years after establishing himself as one of the better DJs in the region he was asked to join Birmingham’s biggest black radio Station ” Sting FM” in 2000. 22yrs later he is still doing a twice weekly drivetime breakfast show. In 2015 he started his own internet radio station “Arawakradio.com”. Within a year he started workshops for young people doing media broadcasting and sound engineering. The station currently has over 40 radio presenters of which half are under the age of 25. He is also chairman of “ACT” (Arawak Community Trust) an organisation based in Coventry that do untold work in community.
In 2021 Arawak radio was truly honoured to win ” Best Radio Station” category at the BLAC awards ceremony in London.
