Brother Nia Imara is the founder and Managing Director of the National Association of Black Supplementary Schools which was founded in 2006.

Nia was a single parent for 14 years, and during that time he wanted his children to have the best start in life as possible so he brought his children to a Saturday.

The Saturday school which Nia took his children to was one which for 10 years he had previously been a volunteer, so he was very much  aware of the virtues of having this structure in his children’s life.

Through NABSS Nia has sponsored individual student fees and cultural community events, and he has organised Supplementary Schools conferences in the UK.

Nia has also organised full weeks of workshops during the summer holidays at Birkbeck University, and have held ceremonies for unsung community champions and maintained a well received weekly newsletter of positive community educational and cultural events.

The journey continues.
